Reiter Pit Update: The DNR plans for Reiter reduce ORV riding area to only 1,100 acres, which even DNR admits is "...inadequate to accommodate existing ORV use." DNR refuses to increase the area available to ORVs, shrinking the ORV area "...to make room for trails for people that don't like ORV use." These same people have access to lots of other trails adjacent to Reiter Foothills, land that prohibits offroad motorized use. Now may be the last chance to make your voice heard about handing over your ORV lands to user groups that 1) already have access to areas that we do not, and 2) don't pay any user fees for public lands -- unlike us. Contact Peter Goldmark, Commissioner of Public Lands, Washington Dept. of Natural Resources, P.O. Box 47000, Oympia, WA 98504-7000. His email is CPL@wadnr.gov |
Notice: The State Legislature passed HB1244 this spring, which handed all of our licensing fees and gas tax revenues (Nonhighway and Offroad Vehicle Activities = NOVA funds) to State Parks, who have a 'no motor' policy. This has forced budget shortfalls for many riding areas, and several areas face closure. Reiter Pit will close November 2st for "restoration" (without a plan, permit or
timeline for re-opening date); Moses Lake and Beverly Dunes are also at risk; several snow parks won't be groomed. We've got to join together to keep our riding areas open. The WOHVA (below) has filed a lawsuit challenging the State's theft of our license fees; support their efforts!
